In May 2005 a different story came to light: a whitish grey mould that had appeared on the buttress roots was confirmed as a fungus called ustulina deusta.

This is one of the most active fungi that can cause tree failure without warning - once identified it is very important to assess the strength of the wood around the basal and root areas.
